Free therapy, i.e. the beach
So the beach is supposed to be therapeutic? Really? Yes, Really!
Every time I go to the beach I feel a sense of calm coming over me. Hearing the waves, sun, and laughter of people gives me a natural high. Feeling the sand between my toes naturally gives me peace. It's the place I go to get a natural refresher, when I leave it's like I've had a dose of peace courtesy of the Earth. As a mother a lot of times we feel overwhelmed with shifting from role to role simultaneously and usually going days without a break. We can barely think let alone go sit on someone else's couch so that they can help us think. I find the easiest and most cost effective way to check out sometimes is having a beach day with your little beast or by yourself if you can. It's something about the sound of nature that kind of drowns out the noise of everyday life. I've noticed that not only myself but my son always leave the beach happy and at peace. It's a great place to feel a breeze, zone out, or clear your mind so that you can gather your thoughts. Even more interesting are the countless research studies that support the beach being a free therapeutic environment for people. Keyword and emphasis on #free.
I read an article by Amy Boulanger in which experts are vouching for the therapeutic effects that the sun, sand, and water have on not only the mental but physical body. I'm going to sum it up for you gals don't worry...
In short, the sun gives the skin more Vitamin D and also gives us an increase in endorphins. Endorphins are the bodies hormones that create that "natural high". Not only do these hormones give us a sense of euphoria, they also improve your mood, increase your appetite, and are pain and stress relievers. Beach + Sun = Endorphins = Happier, Sensual, Pain Resistant feelings.
In regards to the sand the article mentions that your feet coming in contact with the sand creates better vibes throughout your body. Why? Your feet are the part of your body with the most nerves and walking on the sand gets those nerves in motion almost 2x faster than walking with shoes. So if you just want to feel the energy of the Earth or if you want to enhance your workout the beach is the better way to go. A basic understanding of the Earth and biology can easily explain why being in the water is also good for you. The water has so many rich minerals and nutrients that just can't be found in a pool or bath tub. Naturally we want to be doped off of endorphins and let our body, environments, and surrounding energies heal us. Why take manufactured products and supplements when we can hit the beach and get high off of the Earth?
