Graduation: Why educate yourself?

Graduation: Why educate yourself?

Views from someone who once was poor and now is a graduate with a Masters of Business Administration working to be great

Good morning my beautiful people!

So for those of you who follow my personal page, you know I graduated this weekend. Yes! Hence the delay in blogs within the last few days. I,Estephanie, at the age of 24 years old walked across the stage and got my Masters of Business Administration degree!

If you would've asked me 8 years ago where I saw myself, the answer wouldn't be where I am today. I am completely humbled and thrilled with the opportunities God has given me. So why have I been pursuing education?

The answer is simply.

Giovani.

My son literally changed my entire world. I come from a place of suffering and downfalls more than triumphs. My mental state growing up was that happiness was not attainable and surviving through life was just the norm. IT IS NOT.

Hence the reason I chose to put this blog under Views from a Beaut. I am now viewing opportunities as mines for the taking and I encourage you all to go for yours as well. It took me seeing my son sleeping on the floor, watching roaches crawl over him, and being locked out of a home because it wasn't mines with my son to get HUNGRY. Hungry enough to change, to want more, to provide better. My advice to you is this, if you are not a good saleswoman, if you do not have a means, if you do not know where your direction is.... EDUCATE YOURSELF. This can either be formal or self education. I have a degree in elementary education, health sciences, and now business administration? Why? Because I didn't know WHAT I wanted to do but I knew to explore my options I needed to KNOW what was out there. There are so many careers out there and I had NO IDEA about half of them until I started going to school. I knew I wasn't going to receive a handout so I made my degree relevant to the field I was working in. HEALTH. I started from the bottom as a receptionist and learned EVERYTHING in that job until I got promoted.... went to a call center and did the same thing. If you hate your job, look at it as a temporary fixture to get to where you want to be. Make your job WORK FOR YOU. I HATE call centers but by the time I left I had management skills under my belt and ON my resume.

Last year, I started educating myself on businesses and financial literacy because I have grown tired of working for someone else. But guess what. I do not know anyone personally who owns a business, or has a savings account, let alone investments. So what was my alternative? To educate myself. Hence, I went for my Masters of Business Administration to learn what was important in business, how to be an efficient leader, and how to set myself apart. I also enrolled in courses offered by successful business persons, and have used every free available source out there. I know that since I have started this path not knowing anything and being a horrible salesperson that it will be longer than most. That's ok. My path isn't the same as everyone else's. I will tell you this, my path will be what I make out of it. & so will your's. Sometimes you have to get sick and tired of being sick and tired. Stop making excuses and just throw yourself into an opportunity if one isn't being created for you!

If your interested in an online yet rigorous program check out my other blogs under Thoughts of a Beaut and Beaut on a Budget for a review of the school I went to for my MBA (Western Governors University) and the program itself.

Beaut advice: Being a mother is the hardest role anyone can ever give you. The future of these kids, their mentality, while not all on you... can largely be attributed to the parenting they received. I am not perfect, neither is my child, or my parenting skills.... But I am trying everyday. Trying to be a better mother, woman, person, friend, && knowing that my son is watching every action I take. Don't tell your kids to never quit, show them that you never did.
